36 swimmers entered the waters in Octagon Pond under sunny skies and 22C on August 25 for the first of four swim meets
to determine the Open Water Champion for the 750m and 1500m distances.

The fastest time in the 750m meet went to ROCK SWIM's own Jonathon Slaney with a time of  9 min 50sec while the first place in the1500m went to young Gavin Dyke with a time of 17min 10 sec and both swimmers earned top points in their respective categories. A good start to the race series, but there are three more to come and a lot can happen between now and the day the Champion is declared. The 1500m heat proved to be as predicted: very competitive and the final times were close!
